Battle of the minds
For the first 7 or 8 years of our life we live in the subconscious mind, that is why children are so emotional, they are not logical. Between the ages of 8 to 12 years old we start developing our conscious mind. Then at around 12 years of age, the gateway to our subconscious mind closes and we move fully into our conscious mind during our waking hours. After the gateway is closed, we become blissfully unaware of the subconscious programs that are running automatically in the background, we are oblivious.
Our early childhood subconscious mind had a purpose, besides learning very quickly through repetition. Its function was to protect us, to protect our ego and to make us feel emotionally better. After the age of about 12 and fully in our conscious mind, we forget the subconscious programs that are still running in the background. They are controlling our emotions, how we experience life and our life choices. Our subconscious mind is pleasure finding, emotional pain escaping and when we are children it will do absolutely anything to avoid emotional pain.
If our subconscious mind programs conflict with our conscious mind wishes and desires, we will never achieve our goals. In the battles of our mind, the logically thinking conscious mind (5%) is never ever going to beat the emotional/feeling subconscious mind (95%). Emotion will always beat logic, 100% of the time. Our subconscious mind must be fully aligned to our conscious mind to accomplish our goals and achieve permanent change.
